Business Studies with Financial Services

Course Title: Business Studies with Financial Services – Award BBSXX

Foundation/Preparatory Course in conjunction with Athlone I.T and other Business related courses at Third Level

Course Description:

This is a one year computer-intensive course which has been designed to enable students gain a broad understanding of Business Administration and Information Technology. This is an excellent foundation for many third level courses. It is aimed at students of Leaving Certificate standard and leads to a FETAC Award in Business Studies Level 5. Information Technology is a major growth area for employment and this course will facilitate the student’s integration into the work place. Students will have also developed a firm foundation on which to pursue further studies in a variety of disciplines. Places are reserved for students at various Universities and Institutes of Technology.

  • Computerised & Manual Bookkeeping (TAS)
  • Computer Applications (Spreadsheet & Database)
  • Marketing Practice
  • Applied Economics
  • Text Production
  • Word Processing
  • IT Skills
  • Communications
  • Work Experience
  • Customer Services

FACILITIES

The computer room is equipped with state of the art computers using Microsoft Office 2007 and Internet linked with Broadband.

Certification:

Students will have the opportunity to sit FETAC (NCVA) Level 5 Examinations.

Under the Higher Education Links Scheme, FETAC (NCVA) Level 5 award holders may apply for reserved places on National Certificate Courses in Business Studies / Financial Services, Office Information Systems and other disciplines e.g. Higher Cert in Business & Music (Athlone I.T.) in the Institutes of Technology & Universities.

Check with the college to see if there are any other special requirements.

PLC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Leaving Certificate or Equivalent
  • Mature students accepted without Leaving Cert.
  • Interviews.

Maintenance Grants

Students taking PLC Courses are now eligible to apply for maintenance grants. These grants are means tested.

FEES

There are no Tuition Fees for PLC Courses. Examination fees, membership fees of professional bodies (where applicable) and other sundry items (course materials) are payable at various times throughout the academic year.
