Visit to Longford Library Archives
Last Tuesday a group of Second Year Higher Level History students had the opportunity to visit The Longford Archives accompanied by their teacher Ms. Joan Farrell. Mr. Martin Morris, the library archivist displayed a wide variety of primary and secondary sources. Among the sources of great interest were the 1823 O.S. Map of Longford and deeds dating back to the 18th Century. This was a fascinating insight into Longford History and it will encourage students to take an interest in their own local history.

CSPE Visit to Dáil Eireann and Collins Barracks
A delighted group of 1st, 2nd and 3RD Years had a great time visiting the exciting city of Dublin last Wednesday. The tour was very interesting and also exciting. The main purpose of this visit is to prepare students for their CSPE projects which students are now completing and which is worth 60% of the Junior Certificate Exam.. The first attraction of the tour was a visit to Collins Barracks. There we saw many interesting exhibits reflecting Irish history and its culture. We saw various types of clothing from earlier times and collections of coins and pieces of old jewellery. The most exciting objects on display were the various types of weapons. The tour continued with a trip around Dublin City, passing the GPO,the O2, Phoenix Park, Aras an Uachtaráin and finally to Leinster House. Students received a guided tour of Leinster House and also visited the public chamber of Dáil Eireann. Many familiar faces were there to greet the group and after a long day we made our way home. We would like to sincerely thank Ms. Nic Dhonncha, Ms. Doorley and Ms. Casey for providing us with the opportunity to enjoy this experience.
Worlds Aids Day 1st of December
This day is promoted by the Aids Partnership with Africa and facilitated by NAPD, NPCPP and PDA. Schools are encouraged to participate by taking 15mins to Mark WAD in solidarity with people impacted by HIV and AIDS. It’s estimated that approximately 20,000,000 young people have lost their parents from this disease. We will mark this important day by lighting candles to remember all those people affected by this disease.
